I'm assuming you have the setting 'Group compilation albums together' set. The 'Various Artists' at the top of the artists list is a special pseudo-artist to group all of your compilation albums. This is where your compilations should be displayed. There shouldn't be another Various Artists under V unless an artist called 'Various Artists' has been created by being in your tags somewhere. Some ripping and tagging software (iTunes in particular) will place the string 'Various Artists' in one of the tags that I listed above.
