I am not aware of any software package able to completely decode all HDCD features like dynamic switchable filters, is dbPA able to do so?
Concerning a HDCD DAC, i already have two, and i don't think there is much in them what could fail and could not be repaired for peanuts, besides there are still HDCD capable gear produced, like Marantz multi channel receivers.
