I use genres not only to partition the music but also my file system. I have 6000+ CDs on my 2TB hard drive and to keep subgroups small I use 8 'real' genres and two of them are subdivided by alphabet: My scheme goes like this: blues classical folk jazz a-c jazz d-g jazz h-l jazz m-q jazz r-s jazz t-z jazz mix pop rock a-c rock d-g rock h-l rock m-q rock r-s rock t-z rock mix world word artist folders within go by 'first name last name' and are always the same for the folder as in the tags. Groups are always without the 'the' except, so far, 'The The', 'The Verve', 'The Band' and 'The Good, the Bad and the Queen'. For database use multiple genres would be nice like I use them to index my covers website at wulfware.de/covers but as always, there are problems; in this case the multiple genres create multiple entries, thus messing up the stats. For folders only one genre makes sense, unless one would resort to using links; but for Artists like Ray Charles how many links would be needed?? So for some cases, yes, one has to remember whre he or she went. Ray is files under 'blues' btw.. Within the 'classical' genre the folders are organized by composer as artist. There is also a 'div' subfolder for CDs which hold pieces by various composers and one for various baroque composers. The world genres holds several subfolders eg 'latin'. 'india', 'france' etc.. -- tawulf ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tawulf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35826 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80908 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/ripping
