When browsing to the albums that belong to a chosen artist, I'm quite happy
with the view that I get. i.e. a list of albums for the artist, that can be
sorted by album name or year. I don't really need anything else.

Similarly when browsing a chosen genre, the ability to list albums by name,
artist or year.
Similarly when browsing a chosen year, the ability to list albums by name,
artist or genre is useful.

The only thing that I think would be nice is to show appearances on compilation
albums in a separate area in the list (web UI), i.e. perhaps on a player UI, to
see "Compilations > " as a sub-area, and/or a way to hide compilations from the
albums list page.

It's no worse - exactly the same, just doesn't work reliably and could do with
fixing.

I've no idea what you mean. Not clear at all.

Browsing the albums for a chosen artist, via Browse Artists > [artist] >, is
putting a constraint on the Albums view (i.e. only albums where the artist is
involved). This is limiting what is in the view.

I don't get what you mean - what conundrum/faulty assumptions?

If I want to find music related to year 2010, I can Browse Years > 2010, and
get a list of albums. That means I don't have to start with an unconstrained
list of albums, sort it by year, and then scroll down until I find the albums
associated with 2010.

More so, it means that an album that has songs in different years can be found
within the albums list for several chosen years, rather than:
a) the album only appearing once under an arbitrary year (current behaviour or
sorting albums by year).
b) having to scroll through a potentially a long list where several compilation
albums may be repeated many times (once per year).
