Not as far as I know. You might be thinking of dual layer CD/SACDs which do need extra technology to read the SACD layer. It is not currently legally possible to rip SACDs, more's the pity. The Linn discs are exceptional in that many of them have CD, HDCD, SACD and SACD surround on them. And exceptional music too ime.
