Sorry that was a bit lame of me not to mention. The car radio has an USB in and has been reading mp3 just fine. I think you are right with the VBR. I tried to see if that would solve it via db poweramp-flac-mp3 CBR. It did not work out.
After reading in this sub forum i found people talking about Foobar2000. I just have installed it and converted a flac to mp3. Have not tested it yet.
