Yes, it's one of those annoying situations, where it's not clear who is right. Perhaps it's not well-defined (i.e. should REM DATE be a string or an integer?)


Note that I'm talking about flac+cue here, with the issue being quotes in the cue file:

        # LMS ignores the date here, because of the quotes;
        # removing the quotes makes LMS see the date
        REM DATE "2001"

        # LMS is happy with the quotes here
        PERFORMER "Old Crow Medicine Show"

        # XLD sometimes uses more detailed date, e.g. from MusicBrains,
        # which LMS doesn't like even with or without the quotes
        REM DATE "2001-12-31"


It may be that XLD doesn't use quotes if not using a cue file, I dunno...
