Two instances of RDAirPlay, yes.  Most Rivendell modules support multiple 
instances without difficulty.

Yes.  Specifically, RDAirPlay itself deletes it as part of its shutdown 
process.  However, if RDAirPlay shuts down abnormally --e.g. by being sent a 
SIGKILL -- that shutdown process doesn't run, hence a 'stale' lockfile gets 
left behind.
