A stock Rivendell library can contain up to 999999 carts (cart numbers 000001 through 999999 inclusive -- note that 000000 is *not* a valid cart number). Each cart may in turn contain up to 1000 cuts, making for a total maximum of 999,999,000 pieces of audio. I've yet to hear of a site where these limits have become a problem (although I'm aware of a few with >100,000 carts).
