You'd probably need only 1/3 the features that controller offers. In the heat of battle, mixing for radio needs to be a lot simpler.
Admittedly, I am inspired by that Leo Bodnar USB Joystick circuit card suggested by Lyonel Bernard. I have an old Sparta five-pot mixer shell that has been pretty useless for many years out in my garage.
