What am I missing or have screwed up in trying to patch Rivendell's output
to the soundcard, and the soundcards output to the speakers & streamer?
This is probably pretty simple, but I've run out of different ways to
approach it again.
I have a Dell dual core machine with a built in soundcard running Rivendell
on CentOS - direct from the Paravel Broadcast Appliance. I am having trouble
at this point sequencing and configuring the jack server and alsa to get
audio out of RDAirplay to listen to on speakers and to stream. Since
install, to hear any audio, I have had to:
Load RDAlsaConfig
It shows two devices (one card)
Move both down to active.
Save.
Repeat.
Load RDAirplay.
It turns out RD on boot is not starting the jack server. If Jack is loaded
after this procedure it doesn't see Rivendell looking at it with
JackControl. This is not because one is run as being root and the other as
the RDUser. Doing this gets me closer but still not RD audio:
As the RD user, stop the RD daemons (service Rivendell stop)
Start jackcontrol (patch connections have been configured)
Start the stream to icecast running on one of my dedicated servers.
Start the RD daemons (service Rivendell start)
Now JackControl shows as inputs on the left in RED Rivendell_0 (7left/7right
channels) and System (1left/1right) and as outputs on the right in GREEN
Rivendell_0, System, and my server stream (1left, 1right).
Using http://frederick.henderson-meier.org/ as a guide I patched all
left-side (input) Rivendell L/R channels to the right-side (output) System
L/R channels, and then reversed that and sent all of the right-side (output)
Rivendell L/R channels to the left-side (input) System L/R channels. That
doesn't work. Pull up RDAirplay though and no sound/response.
JackCtrl is starting with <default>'s for all of the cards. As far as I can
tell RD is NOT starting any instance of the jack server that might be
conflicting either as root or rd.
