At this point, there are no further releases planned for the 2.x
branch, short of a major bug or security vulnerability fix becoming
necessary. All development resources are currently going into 3.x.

Yes. There will be a published procedure for upgrading a CentOS 7-based
setup to 3.x. Users currently on CentOS 6 should begin planning for a
move to CentOS 7, especially as 6 goes out of support on 30 Nov 2020.

We are also beginning to work up a 3.x integration for "CentOS 8",
using the current RHEL 8 beta release as a stalking horse. No firm
timeline on that, as RedHat as not yet announced a release date for
RHEL 8, and a corresponding initial CentOS major release usually
happens 3 - 6 months after that. 2020 Q1 would be my best guesstimate
at present.

Cheers!
