Hello all,

I like the overall concept of Redmond Linux. I have long thought that the hate
that many Linux developers have for Microsoft has stood in the way of
recognizing the good of it. When a user can install Linux, install programs
and hardware, drag icons around and uninstall as gracefully as the Windows
environment, Linux will emerge as the "stable" desktop standard. As a Novell
network administrator I am faced daily with the task of dealing with computer
illiterates and I constantly say "No... Linux is not for you... not yet... but
someday".

I have one issue with Redmond Linux... Speed. I tested it on my P100 and
then removed it to fall back the distribution I was using perviously because it
took probably 3-4 times longer to boot. I usually start my unit at night to do
one or two quick tasks and then shut it down and I found it frustrating. I've
tried several distributions and they all vary somewhat. Many are slow and the
one I am currently using is exceptionally fast (but I have other issues with it).
I don't understand why or how they could vary so much but I think it's an
issue worth looking into.

I haven't given up though. I intend to install the first release in November and
stick with it because I believe in the Redmond Linux ideals and they have a
team working behind it. I hope to see some support stuff on the WEB page
once the initial release comes out (FAQs, Manuals, Installation instructions
(remember we don't all have bootable CDRoms), etc.) Keep up the good work
and don't ever forget about our Mothers.
