After several attempts at install using various hardware, I seem to have a
fairly stable setup going.
Video cards attempted included:
Aopen Artist PA50 2x AGP (SIS 6326)which failed misserably...
Palit Daytona (SIS 6326) Second try yeilded even worse results than w/build
19! Upon return from "test this mode" KILLED Lizard's xserver!
Generic ET4000 w32 PCI good results in 16k colors but 24k colors were way off
towards the purple relm. (this is a generation 1 pci vga card[ie really slow
RAMDAC]) (on the market w/the earliest pent 60/66's)
In all cases the monitor used was a Viewsonic 6e seleted in install as
Viewsonic 6
Final attempt used a Trident 3D Image 975 AGP 1x, in 24k color 800x600 72hz.
this seems to be the card! Colors are dazzling. Video responds reliably no
unexplained lock ups. Most importantly w/the two SIS cards in combination w/a
USB Zip 250 there were random dma lockups that killed the filesystem in every
case. With the trident card that did not occur.
About the Zip250:
In all cases when the zip drive is plugged in the install takes forever...
50-65mins as opposed to 13-18 without it. In all cases when Lizard finishes
install and "Boots to new system" (which it does without rebooting!) when
KDE2 comes up the zipdrive is alive and well as /dev/sda4! However in all
subsequent boots the Zip is gone attemping to mount it yields
/dev/sda4 has wrong major or minor number
modprobe reports block-major-8 missing
I know they're related but this windows expert is attemping linux and I don't
have a clue!

one final note to get the final setup hooked up to my internet gateway was
rocket science! :o)
I setup the dns, tcp/ip and def gateway up staticly.
I haven't configured a DHCP yet....
!!!! Like fallin off a log!!!!
you just can help but grin when ya get up!
then got blown away when I saw realplay work!
