They probably are. Xen is a reference monitor, rather than a userspace
kernel. That said, Xen is much more limited in the kernels it can run on
the host, and the patching is pretty intrusive. I'm not saying it's a
bad design, just that one has to look at the actual design goal.

I haven't. I probably should. I'm pretty happy with VMware 4, but the
multiple snapshots in particular are a much-needed improvement.
