Greetings Jim & William, mp4 is short for MPEG-4, which is another multimedia encoding standard. If you are an iTunes music store shopper, then you are probably already familiar with it by another extension, AAC. (Except that Apple adds a bit of DRM to the encoding). Here is more technical detail on mp4: http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/wiki/? page=MP4&PHPSESSID=9e0d0492019c94c392ddb896158f34f2 You should be able to play non-DRM protected mp4 files with Mplayer and VLC, and ~possibly~ with RealPlayer10 If you are feeling adventurous, you could check out mpeg4ip http://osx.freshmeat.net/projects/mpeg4ip/ You can dig up a lot more information with a quick google.com/linux search (http://tinyurl.com/8zwpy) Hopefully someone else will chime in with some specific information on a good player/plugin combination.
