Rick,

You can easily achieve similar capabilities with Linux for a fraction of the price. In fact, you'd have all the capabilities of a full file server, which is far more than you'll get with a NAS. You could even cut out the RAID controller and use software RAID via the Linux kernel if your CPU is fast, and performance isn't critical (save $300+).
