Is this a list of what you have and can get rid of? These are fantastic
specs! Tomorrow, I'll go through my parts and see what I can
contribute, I believe I have a spare monitor too. The hands-on work
shop is an excellent idea, even just installing Linux from scratch.
Might I suggest that you bring duplicates of the distro to be installed,
in case others would like them afterwords. Unfortunately I am working
on Thursdays and am unable to attend the meetings.
About the donations, right now I am doing a tally of who will donate and
the amount provided (amount being confidential). You may also remain
anonymous if you desire, just let me know. At the final stage, when
it's decided what we will do for Bill Roddy, I will either e-mail asking
for the donations, or it will have been solved another way. If we
decide to go Sebastian's route, we may still need to use donations to
complete the pc.
Also, this donations thing has prompted another idea. I've thought
about donating $5 or $10 here and there for various open source
programs/groups, but it just seems too insignificant of an amount for me
to follow through. But if it were several people with small amounts, it
can be a nice chunk of change. How many of would be interested in
contributing, once every month, a small amount for various projects?
Projects, for example, include sourceforge.net (and apps listed there),
tuxmagazine.com, firefox, thunderbird, openoffice... and of course, our
favorite linux distros. Together we can create a list of projects we
plan on donating to, and a volunteer can collect the $ once/month and
send off the donation. The donation to be sent as "From: RLUG" or Reno
Linux Users Group. Questions? Those in favor, speak up!

All,
This is in referrence to Bill's email regarding computer parts.
I'd like everyone to submit a list of computer components they'd like
to get rid of. We'll design machines from this list, and then, at a
RLUG meeting, build and install the machines.
Here is the list (add your stuff to it):
Processors:
- 850Mhz Athlon Thunderbird
- 700Mhz (I think) Athlon Thunderbird
Motherboards:
- Abit KT7A-RAID
RAM:
- 1x 256MB DDR (can't remember clock rate... I can look it up later)
- 1x 256MB PC133
- 1x 256MB DDR SODIMM (Can't remember clock)
HDD:
- 1x 40GB WD
- 1x 40GB Seagate
Video Cards:
- 3x ATI Rage AGP
NIC:
- 4x 10/100Mbps
Power Supply:
- 1x 400W Antec
Cases:
- 1x Very tall POS Biege
Monitor/LCD:
- I have several at work... I'll see if I can get rid of them
I think that's all I have. Add your stuff.
- Sebastian
