While I see your point from an admin and search concept - for myself I really like the mailing list.

I do not have to sign on to a forum and info is essentially "pushed" to me.  With my work schedule
this is a lot easier for "me" to administer, because I normally keep my email up all day and pop over to that
window/workspace several times an hour.  I doubt I would do that in a log-in/click over/review web based forum.
