You could build a thread-based forum that takes posts from the email message list. And you could take new posts from the website and send them to the list. Best of both worlds and a great archive.

Subject: [RLUG] Forums vs. mailing lists

Hello all,

I've been thinking about this since joining RLUG.  For the last few years I've been using web-based forums/message boards such as phpBB: http://www.phpbb.com instead of mailing lists, or in conjunction with mailing lists (i.e. SpamCop).

For me, forums are easier to follow, work with and find information in when compared to mailing lists.  They are also easier from an administrative point of view when it comes to maintaining and retaining data.  They do have a downside when it comes to being behind a hardcore HTTP proxy that won't let you access them, but some folks have similar issues with external email accounts in the enterprise as well.

What does everyone think about the possibility of adding a forum feature to rlug.org?

Brian
