Well that or the lack of automatic dependency resolution in rpm...

If you're keen on manually tracking down each dependency and manually
resolving these issues, then more power to you. However, I propose a
slightly more "intelligent" (I use the word lightly with regard to any
RPM-based system) system:

php-mssql-5.0.4-10.1.i386.rpm failed to install because
freetds-0.63-2.i386.rpm failed to install. so libreadline.so.4
is the start of a chain reaction of failures.

This may mean the freetds package you have is not compatible with FC4.
Try finding a different one that says it will work with FC4 and go with
that.

I used google (with search string: FC4 freetds rpm) to find this page:

http://rpmforge.net/user/packages/freetds/

looks like this might be a good rpm for you?:

http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/fc4/i386/RPMS.dries/freetds-0.63-1.2.fc4.rf.i386.rpm

I'll leave the rest to you. Let us know how it goes.

If UNIX doesn't have the solution you have the wrong problem.
UNIX is simple, but it takes a genius to understand it's simplicity.
