Thanks for the info.
I finally gave up on the HDTV and just went to a 22" wides screen. Not
quite as big, but all the rez issues immediately disappeared
and text is eminently more readable.

First you need to find out if your graphics hardware can do those
pixel dimensions. I bought a 1440x900 LCD for home and had to get a
new display card before it would drive it at the proper pixel
dimensions. What do you have?

I have a screen resolution problem in Ubuntu
I swapped out my monitor for an HDTV monitor because of the
additional real estate. At first I was getting the message that the
monitor "did not support the resolution." I had it at 1024x768. The
max resolution on this puppy is 1280x720.
I went in and modified the xorg.conf and "downgraded" the resolution
and was able to finally fire up X. But it's horrible at this low
rez. How do I force Ubuntu to use a custom rez of 1280x720?
Thanks
Dennis
