I thought you were talking about one thing with the term Document
Management Systems then it appeared to be something else entirely
when I used the link you provided which took me to Google's software
page for search engines.
In my office we deal with a lot of documents - most of which our clients
bring. To keep our filing down - we opted
for a system that, while not a *nix solution, has been pretty good. I
haven't looked but there is
probably a similar one in the OSS world. We use a product called
eFileCabinet. It uses a sheet fed scanner
along with some (proprietary) software to scan and store documents in a
PDF format indexed with a searchable database.
It's fast, simple to use and while a little pricey has paid for itself
in two years in our office.
The software also creates a pseudo "printer" so anything you can send
to a printer can be put directly into the eFileCabinet
without having to scan and store.
Just my 2p.

I mentioned at the last meeting I was investigating Doucument
Management systems . Suprise, suprise, it looks like Google has
something that beats the pants off of everything else (if your willing
to pay)
