Aurélien, thanks for your reply.For question 1, client and server versions, I suppose it would be safest and simple for us to simply require a robinhood client machine for every version of the lustre server we run so lustre versions can match. So this question is perhaps not worth much thought.

It is very likely we would want to use multiple modes on one filesystem.I think that you can enable purge policies also in archive mode, so that should be fine for tmpfs.
