Because it is a waste of precious code space on the archos?

As you can tell by the fact that I started the thread, I didn't
realize that it was decibels. Instead, I thought it was a bug in the
volume calculating algorithm. Although I do consider myself
technically capable, I don't consider myself an audiophile, and while
I knew that decibels were used to measure volume (please don't shoot
me if decibels don't exactly measure volume) and that they increase
exponentially, I never really use them to measure my audio.

Even after I installed the new firmware and the display changed, I
still used the UP/Down keys to control the audio until it was at a
comfortable level.

As a suggestion that may not take up much more place in the firmware,
what about adding the letters 'dB' after the number representation for
the volume? That way people will know that the volume is represented
in decibels.
