Dear SinisterMilk,
Cute name. "Hey, that would make a great name for a rock band!"*
In the FAQ, you'll see "grep is your friend". I know you'll see
it, because you'll the 'right thing' and read it all, won't you?
Please do. That, and reasonable grammar, are all we ask. :)
Now, since you're in Windows, may I recommend TextPad? It's cheap
at $26. If all Windows programs were as good as this, Linux wouldn't
have a chance. But they aren't, and it does, so learning Linux is a
very good thing for you personally, almost essential if you want to
run your game on a public server, and just generally fun.
Grep is good, but TextPad's Search is better. It produces a list
of hits which are links to the line it found. I found it much easier
to do my coding outside Cygwin in TextPad. Now I FTP files to the mud
server and compile there, but I still code at home in Windows. And, it
gives me automatic off-site backup.
Actually, grep is more than a friend, it's your trusty guide that
lead you though ROM and show you where everything is. Oh, something
else you may not want to stop to learn now is regexp. Stop. Learn.
You'll save oh, so much time over the years.
Sandi
