Every once in a while, about every week or so, my mud
will crash for seemingly no apparent reason, and it
won't try to restart automatically.

There is nothing written to the logs, and there isn't
a core dump. Its almost as if the process just dies.
I know the process isn't being killed by my system
admin (because of too much CPU or whatnot), because if
that happens, I'd get an automated email.

Is there any way to detail my logging system more
specifically to try to check for more errors? I don't
know what could be causing the crash. I've heard you
can log system errors, does anyone have any experience
with that?

I've been logged on the mud most of the times when it
has crashed due to this, and there doesn't seem to be
any specific reason or action that causes it. Since
it only happens about once a week or so, I'm not so
concerned about it being a major bug, but more
concerned that it will crash some time when I'm away
for a few days, and will stay down.

I've seen on Darkoth's website a perl startup script
for startup (
http://darkoth.kyndig.com/Code/mudcheck.pl ).
Basically its a Perl script that checks every 10
minutes or so to see if your mud is up and running,
and if it isn't, it starts it. I'm considering using
that for now. Does anyone have anything like that, or
have any suggestions or comments about possible
problems with it?

Thanks
