Crashing is not acceptable because because the mud hasn't crashed in a week, or two.. or a year. The crash could occur 5 minutes into boot... or 5 years, depending on circumstance. The original poster should make sure his mud is dropping a core. bash shell: ulimit -c unlimited (in the startup script). If you're using linux and threaded DNS then your core will not be reliable. Remove threaded DNS while in this troubleshooting stage. Good luck.
