 1) Any AJAX application could have this problem, yes.  
   
 2) It's still asynchronous, in that you could have other events 
requesting other types of information at the same time.  You're only 
attempting to synchronize a class of events.  
   
 3) There might already be something to do this in the prototype library, 
but I forget.
