Yes, it would do that, of course, but my point was that a "real" erase tool would still re-use a significant amount of the existing code. > I'd say *if anything* perhaps the solution here is to change the eraser icon > into something else. Yes, that's exactly the problem - a combination of existing tools would be required. > Making a new tool to combine both resizing (erasing from either end) and > spliting/selecting/deleting (erasing some odd bit in the middle) operations > just sounds like a huge headache for a very trivial usability improvement. > Personally, I don't agree that it's even an issue. Whilst it's not an issue for you it is assuredly an issue for me. What counts as good design in user-interfaces is necessarily very subjective. If you think about it, I am not proposing the addition of a new tool as you said above. It is a logical extension of the existing Erase tool which would make its functionality more consistent with its name. It would also reduce the frequency of changing tools because you could split and shrink segments using the erase tool. > Even if I expected it to erase bits of a segment, > it would become obvious to me what it really did > after the first time I used it. Let's see what C, R and G have to say. If nobody wants it, I'll have to write my own patch privately. > (And no, I'm not keen on having to rewrite that part of the tutorial. You're not seriously using that as an excuse to hold up development I hope :) William ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by Black Hat Briefings & Training.
