Well, this isn't the first time you've made that statement. I figured you
must have gotten the fork well along by now.

Of course, if you're forking it anyway, you might as well share some of the
code. (Hint.)

You really *don't* want to do a private patch anyway. I've been down that
road myself, and it's a nightmare trying to maintain my own little fork of a
big package. I'm still using an ancient version of ls because I so love my
little -O hack that GNU scoffed at, but just keeping the old code building on
newer and newer systems is getting tiresome.

Oh go ahead and log it. They're busy. We can fight about it later.

FWIW I don't have a problem with your concept, but it sounds like a royal PITA
to implement. More trouble than it's worth in spades and shovels from where
I sit. Go look for yourself and see if you still think this is a trivial
little feature massage.

Plus I don't want to see the current erase tool change. I've been using it
for two years, and I like it just fine. If anything, move the current tool
to a "delete segment" tool, and do your swiss army knife eraser flummy as the
eraser. I don't want to have to shift/alt/ctrl/whatever+click the eraser to
erase an entire segment, and I don't want to have to drag the stupid thing
from here until next Tuesday to erase an entire segment either. I want the
tool I've always used right where I left it, working the way it always has;
though I won't scream about it if you want to give it a different icon and
call it something else.

I don't think this is so ground-breaking that it couldn't be slipped in before
1.0, but I can assure you I don't have time or interest in doing it, and I
have very little expectation that Chris or Rich have any interest in doing it
either, and especially no time. Guillame is mostly lurking right at the
moment, and I think you'll be waiting a long time for him to grab this as
well. That pretty much means if you want it badly enough, send us a patch,
and we'll review and consider it. Or else you can wait probably on the order
of several months to infinity for it to show up.
