Out of further interest have you ever tried using RG with a hardware MIDI synth?
I find that using a hardware MIDI synth effectively gets quite a lot more
out of any CPU, especially on my old 333MHz PC.

So it looks like your sound chipset doesn't have any supported
hardware-dependent interfaces in ALSA.

BTW, continuing the pedantry: isn't "hardware MIDI sequencer" synonymous
with "hardware MIDI synth"?
