Out of further interest have you ever tried using RG with a hardware MIDI synth? I find that using a hardware MIDI synth effectively gets quite a lot more out of any CPU, especially on my old 333MHz PC. > Loading snd-hwdep just creates an empty /proc/asound/hwdep.
