I don't understand what's the big fuss about this. getAudioPreviewData() is 
normally called during a redraw as soon as a new part of an audio segment has 
to be drawn. It doesn't recompute the whole audio preview, it merely returns 
a pointer to the preview data cache, out of which the rectangles are 
computed.
