Hmm.  What are those white lines about?  I haven't seen that before.

Not flat, just void.  The rectangle in question is completely empty here (see 
attached.)

Where is the limit of my X server imposed?  Just for shits and giggles, I ran 
a bare bones X11 session with nothing but xterm, kwin and rosegarden.  Same 
result.

I honestly have no clue how anything works under the hood.
