It depends on how you checked it out.  I've already forgotten the details, but 
if you checked it out anonymously, you can't just commit it without telling 
Subversion who you are, through some syntax.  If you check it out using this 
same syntax, who you are gets saved in the tree.  I know that's vague, but it 
should be enough of a hint.
