The glasgow-pitch-tracker people might have some work in this area worth checking out. I've never actually done anything with their branch, but it sounded like they were trying, among other things, to get RG to play quarter tones by inserting appropriate pitch bends.

Unfortunately, I've been deleting emails instead of moving them to
trash, so I lost the begining of this thread. I didn't realise the
archive was a bit behind either.

Anyway, we have implemented quarter tone accidentals but for
save/display only. They are compatible with the pitch tracker, which
works with the notated pitch rather than the midi pitch, but as yet
nothing affects the sound coming out. I do intend to implement
microtonal support, but it will use the midi tuning standard rather than
pitch bends (pitch bends restrict harmony). However, I'm going to finish
off plans for the pitch tracker first.

We have been using a combination of Rosegarden, Scala, Lilypond and
FluidSynth to train a singer and a clarinetist to play 19 tone equal
tempered music. We use Scala to retune Fluidsynth to a 19ET scale. Nick
has written a script which will convert a score to '19ET scordatura' ie.
the notes on the scordatura score represent the notes to be played on a
conventional keyboard to achieve the desired note from FluidSynth.
Importing this score into Rosegarden allows us to play accompaniement
through Rosegarden, while the pitch tracker simultaneously tracks
performance using the original score.

Sounds complicated, and it is, which is why we want to include this
functionality in one application.

Hope this clarifies something, if not the original question :)
