You should also consider subscribing to the rosegarden-bugs list, where you see a running log of everyone's commit messages, and any new activity on the bug or feature trackers. Usually when I run into the didn't-update-and-couldn't-commit scenario is when the messages on the bugs list have gotten stuck in cyberspace again.
