OK.  That's what I get for thinking without getting my hands on the thing.

Off the top of my head, it sounds more elegant than where I would have gone 
with it.  Does it work?  If it works, let's go that way.

That's kind of the "globs of surrounding discussion" I mostly glossed over, 
I'm afraid, but I think in principle the accidental toolbar has no meaning 
unless you're in "insert [dotted] notes" mode, so if there's some reasonable 
way to wire it all up so it...

Well, I don't know really.  I've had a lot to digest over the last couple 
days, and I'm behind.  I dreaded turning on my monitor this morning.

I'll have to step back a few steps and sit down and read what you were saying 
about this at the start, and I apologize for not doing an adequate job of that 
before now.
