This is one of the things that Ardour3 seems to be getting right :)

And this is where I'm probably missing background. Was there any
discussion about contributing to RG ins some way instead?

I do realize that I'm probably starting a flamewar, but curiosity of a
worst kind is something I always had measured in tons available to be
be shared with anyone without will :)
