Hello,

me too am new to / working on that osm routing issues and have some
general questions:
How does the data preprocessing work?
OSM has been for visualizing i.e. there are a lot of (for routing)
unnecessary nodes (of degree 2)
Also with inter-city-directions it seem unnecessary to 'visit' all the
minor non-motorway-roads
Are there any approaches to 'normalizing' or 'layering'? (like freeway-
/ primary- / secondary Graphs)?

Though pgrouting for instance is quite fast as it uses BGL "inside" the
database (please correct me if I'm wrong)
it has to load the graph data structure for every request again and
again, which slows it down
A graph of just 'connected motorway-junctions' would take much less
space to always keep in memory..

I can't find anything in that direction and would be happy about some
pointers or conversation.
Thanks.
