Yes, that's because there are not predefined passwords, when you fall into a 
login screen in livedvd it's usually because the desktop session failed to 
autostart.
You may access an autologin console (no password required) by pressing CTRL-
ALT-F2, there you can look into the /root/.xsession-errors file to see what 
happend, but I would first make sure that the guest machine has at least 256 
MB of RAM, and try even more as a first attempt.
