Yet Fedora happily allows its default browser to use Google's web services 
to protect against web sites reported to be malicious by default.

Fedora even ships a package that regularly phones home to its own servers to 
verify whether any given network is actually connected to the Internet: 
NetworkManager-config-connectivity-fedora.
