Aaaaahhh - that finally explains some odd files lurking in /var/log! That also explains why there's no error message on stdout/stdderr - there's no error, as far as rsyslog is concerned. [/me feels stupid] I would really like to be able to put comments on the ends of config lines, as I can with many other packages. But now I know what's going on here.
