I just wanted to say that I seem to have finally squashed this problem:

https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/commit/88f06516b53a5248839d9520cebe96f48737a16a

With this fix, it works nicely with RHEL7. So thanks to everybody
(especially whissi) who helped to settle the problem!
