Michael, thanks for the info, and you are of course right. I will re-create the tarball, but can do this only on Monday.
The tarball is created via make dist, but obviously my EXTRA_DIST rule was too generic. Another problem that I just now noticed is that I have not pushed the v8-stable branch - and I am at a remote site now, so I cannot access it (thus Monday). @Julien: I guess that also answers your question. I admit that I had underestimated the complexities in the final tarball-to-pkg step. We usually build from git in our builds, and so the issue did not surface. Which caused some other issues when we finally released (it was a wild week). Not an excuse but an explanation. Sorry all for the inconvenience and apologies for the hassle. I will post when I have corrected the issue and tagged the release.
