The gmac and bmac drivers for vanilla linux (no RTLinux) under 2.4.X are in
really really bad shape. They'll show the same behavior without RTL.
Ben, Paul and myself are occasionally working on it but the gmac/bmac
don't have real maintainers so fixes may not be soon.
} I am running RTLinux (V3.0pre7, with a 2.4-test1 kernel) on an Apple G3,
} and I am regularly getting network lockups. Everything else works fine,
} but I have to make an ifconfig down and up to get the network back. I
} first thought that our code was responsible for this, since we would
} always get that problem as soon as we ran it, but after doing some
} testing, it appears that the same thing occurs when nothing else than
} the RTLinux modules is loaded. It only takes much more time for the
} network to go down, whereas our application crashes the network
} immediately.
} Our code (at least the relevant part) forwards packets to and from a
} Linux socket and into an RT task.
}
} Does anyone know what could cause such a behavior?
}
} Thanks,
}
