Most of your other replies (the ones I've seen this morning on the list) seem
to address the 'Tornado' IDE rather than the suitability of Real Time Linux
as a replacement for the WIND kernel (the actual VxWorks RTOS kernel). In my
experience Real Time Linux is an excellent alternative. Lineo has core
VxWorks functionality running on RTAI right now, (so doing the same for
RTLinux _should_ be child's play :-). By 'core' functionality I mean, tasks,
timers, semaphores and queues with new items being added (almost) daily.

If one can accept non-real time performance (sic) there's also Montavista's
library which maps onto Linux threads. It's well-written and well documented
(that's not to say ours isn't...but I might be biased :-)

As for the Tornado situation, you've seen there are a number of possibilites
but remember that Tornado is a highly-integrated solution providing a number
of excellent tools (and yeah, we're working on one of them too)
