Without seeing some code, I'm not sure why you're getting an ENOSYS
error. A good rule of thumb is: if you're just doing data acquisition,
good ole vanilla linux should do the trick; if you're doing data
acquisition and control (typically in which output values depend on input
values,) you need a real time linux.

The RT linucies are just kernel patches (ie. you don't need to change
your distribution,) and they typically are most optimal when applied to
very specific kernels. If for example, you go with the most recent RTLinux
(version 3.0), I'd recommend down-grading your kernel back to 2.4.1 - the
most recent for which RTLinux-3.0 is guaranteed to work.
