What model and version of BIOS is your system using? I had a similar problem
which was caused by USB plug & play. Disabling the USB option in the bios
settings prevented the system clock to run faster than the RTC.

The system I was running used a Phoenix BIOS.

hope this is of help

Subject: RE: [rtl] clock problem - Here Too - Any Solution?

Dear List,

Some time back, S. Ancelot wrote:

We are experiencing exactly the same problem you described below.
Has anyone figured out what is causing it and, more importantly, how to make
it stop?

Note: The speed of the time gain appears to vary with the speed of
the loops in our various threads (though not necessarily linearly).

We have a need for reasonably precise time synchronization in our
system and want Linux to use NTP to keep things in synch with another system
to within a few milliseconds. Unfortunately, with this clock problem, NTP
is hopeless. Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Steve
