Just finally pushed the work, would appreciate if you could test it as
well. It's based on the latest kernel version and should (untested) work
with MSI-X as well.

I noticed that the e1000e also suffers from a start-up delay that eats
outgoing or incoming packets. We had to work around it in e1000 via an
msleep(3000), and I'm considering to add this to e1000e as well. Did you
notice this with your version as well?
